Anti-Racist

55 years old, son of a rabbi. Our first major falling out was when I came down to breakfast when I was 14 and told him, having thought things through, that I was an atheist! He exploded. I became an anti-Zionist in a strange way. I went to the King David school in Liverpool and they held a debate (the Zionist Federation disapproved!) on whether Zionism was right or wrong. Noone would play the devil's advocate so I did. In the course of researching for the debate I became convinced! And then about a year later I went on one of these school trips to Israel, funded by the ZF partly, and that convinced me. Despite taking us to tame Bedouin Arabs to show how nice Zionism was really. Was Vice President of the student union at Brighton Polytechnic for 2 years, NUS Conference delegate 13 times, member of NUS Polytechnics Committee and general agitator. Arrested many times for squatting, fighting fash, general demos etc. BSc Hons in Applied Sciences, MA Imperial History (Birkbeck), Law Degree Sussex (CPE actually) and Legal Practice Certificate. Secretary of Brighton Unemployed Centre and specialise in Employment Law. Married out I'm afraid (nice Catholic girl!) with 4 kids, one of whom is autistic. Chuffed when my 17 year old daughter told us that she considers herself 'half Jewish'. That's fine with me. Likes - Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Beatles & Stones, Gordon Lightfoot and Leonard Cohen (before he decided to play Israel). Founder member of Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Jews Against Zionism and Jews 4 Boycotting Israeli Goods. Set up a blog over a year ago (www.azvsas.blogspot.com) to combat a pernicious anti-Semite called Gilad Atzmon whom others like Indymedia were making excuses for. The Zionists weren't too troubled by him, one of whom even acting as a 'researcher' for him against Jewish anti-Zionists like myself. But then it's hard to fight real anti-semitism if you support other forms of racism and my experience as an anti-fascist is that Zionist talk about 'anti-Semitism' is meaningless since they never participated in the action when it counted.
